I am sure there are some parts of the country that would welcome Frank Guinta’s extreme beliefs. Mr Guinta has the 31st most conservative voting record of the 435 members of House of Representatives. He would be a fine candidate to represent the views and beliefs of some Deep South congressional districts. In no way does he represent New Hampshire values.
The non-profit website Middleclass.org creates an annual scorecard for legislators. They analyze the votes members of congress make on every key piece of legislation that affects the middle class. Some how Mr Guinta voted against the middle class 31 of 32 times. His voting record shows he is with the middle class 8% of the time. Being against the middle class doesn’t win elections in the Northeast. Conversely Carol Shea-Porter achieved an “A” rating.
Add to this the fact that Congressman Guinta wants to defund planned parenthood and is 100% against the right of a woman to choose even in the case of rape or incest or to protect the life of the mother. That may play well in a few parts of the country but not in NH.
Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics is Washington has an annual list of most corrupt members of congress. According to its 2011 report Congressman Guinta was listed as the the 14th most corrupt member of Congress. This is quite embarrassing for NH CD1 to be represented by a person on this list. Carol Shea-Porter on the other hand has never accepted a dime of corporate PAC or DC lobbyist money. Even in the bright red Deep South Mr Guinta may have a problem being on that list.
AFL CIO has tracked the most important bills for Labor during Congressman Guinta’s term and he has voted on the side of working people only twice in 46 votes. So 4% of the time Congressman Guinta voted on our side. Contrast that with Carol Shea Porters 99% lifetime labor voting record. It’s clear who is on the side of working people.
New Hampshire is widely known as a scenic state with unmatched natural beauty. Tourists from all over marvel at our clean lakes and majestic mountains and clean air. Yet Mr Guinta received a 0 rating from the Sierra Club. That’s astounding . NH Republicans have a history of breaking with party leadership and being more environmentally friendly. An example is Charlie Bass who received a 58 score.
While not perfect it is light years ahead of Mr Guinta’s 0. Conversely Shea-Porter was endorsed last week by the Sierra Club as they noted she wouldn’t sell the “natural beauty of the Granite State isn’t sold out for a quick buck”
Maybe Congressman Guinta would feel more comfortable running on his voting record and try to win a Congressional seat in the Bible Belt. He would get to meet many fine people down there and enjoy southern hospitality. Southern cooking is unrivaled. Plus avoiding these harsh New England winters always makes life better. The Corporate PAC’s that run his ads can save thousands of dollars in attack ads demonizing his opponent. There are some parts of the country you can win a seat in congress with that voting record, New Hampshire isn’t one of them.
